My Background

I Am A 3rd Generation Minnesotan

I grew up in the Rondo Community in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where there was a village who helped me become the woman that I am today.

Both of my parents are retired educators. My father, Robert Lewis, is a Saint Paul Central Football Hall of Famer and was a Dean at Saint Paul Technical College. My mother, Iris Lewis, is a dedicated member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and taught GED and Adult Education for many years. They instilled in my sisters Denise Johnson, Cindy Lewis, and I, the importance of our Christian faith, education, hardwork, and looking out for others.

Education Is A Big Part Of Who I Am

I attended Saint Paul public elementary schools during my formative years.  The Blake Schools was a whole new world, that I experienced during my 7th through 12th grade years. It was here that I learned many life lessons and gained many lifelong friends, such as one of my favorite teachers and guidance counselor, Mr. Frank Sachs.

My post-secondary education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management and an MBA in Marketing from the University of Saint Thomas and work towards a doctoral degree in Management from Walden University.

My Professional career has given me a Broad Range of experiences and knowledge

My professional career started in Insurance, as an Auto Claims Representative. Now, I have come full circle, as an Insurance Agency Owner, Full -Service Insurance Broker and Management Consultant.

During my many years working for Northwest Airlines, I discovered that my passion and skills were in helping others understand information that can empower them to succeed. From a Corporate IT Instructor to Real Estate Broker to Insurance Advisor, my gift has been assisting others to distill complicated information and help them apply that information to reach their goals. This is a skill that I plan to bring to the Brooklyn Park City Council and to our community.

As an Business Professional and Owner, I also enjoy volunteering with community organizations, like serving as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for Center for Communications - KMOJ Radio; becoming a Founding Board Member and Sponsor of Build Wealth Minnesota; teaching insurance courses for first-time homebuyer workshops; serving as a past member in professional organizations, such as the National Black MBA Association, National Association of Minority Contractors - Upper Midwest, current member of Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated - Delta Phi Omega chapter.

Though My career has allowed me to fulfill my passion, my family has always been my priority

Rico Alexander and I have been married for 29 years. We have spent 27 of those years raising our family in the same house in the East District of Brooklyn Park, MN.

As the Executive Director of a local non-profit organization, Rico has always led our family to serve our community.

Raising active children has given us the opportunity us to be engaged in our community and invest in their personal development and future.

Raising our children has been my biggest and most rewarding accomplishment

Both of our children, Rico II and Alexis attended Anoka Hennepin Public Schools, where I spent many hours volunteering and supporting their athletic teams and friends.

Having children that have been active in sports year-round has given me the platform to be a role model to our neighborhood children and also the ability to support the non-profit organizations that are committed to nurturing and developing our youth.

Watching them grow to become young adults, who are pursuing their dreams, reinforces the value in investing the time and energy in supporting our youth.
